What to Expect

Though Mourvèdre is a grape with Spanish roots, where it is known as Monastrell, it is most closely associated with the South of France and the Bandol appelation in particular, where the grape produces rich, powerful wines that retain rustic tannins partnered with dark, wild berry flavors and gamy, leathery nuances. It is also commonly called Mataro in California.

Reviews

Another great value from Spain. Not complex, but not hollow. Very consistent on the attack, mid palate and finish. The red fruits tended to build a bit for me, which I liked ... and the acidity was perfect to drink alone or with food. I can see this being a very food-friendly wine that would go great with BBQ.

This Monastrell from Alicante does not spent time in the ubiquitous oak barrels that afflict so many of its brethren from Jumilla. The fruit is concentrated, dark, and rich, with pleasing hits of coffee and a touch of tannic rusticity.
