While this bottling starts out with a rich, well-ripened, oak-sweetened nose that raises high expectations of richness to come, it takes a turn to tightness and hard-edged acidity once in the mouth and fails to follow fully through on its promise. Its limited, vaguely citrusy fruit never quite opens up, and it ends with a slightly chalky finish.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Drinkable now. Further bottle aging can improve this wine.

Bright gold. At once richer and livelier than the Edna Valley bottling, displaying scents of pear, orange oil, buttered apple and smoky minerals. Sappy orchard and citrus fruit flavors provide very good palate coverage and are lifted by tangy acidity. The orange note comes back strongly on the finish, which leaves a dusty, stony quality behind.
Vivid yellow-gold. Powerful scents of orange, pear skin, toasty lees and iodine. Much more complex than the Edna Valley bottling today, offering powerful citrus and orchard fruit flavors and complicating notes of lees and minerals. Finishes with strong mineral cut and lingering spiciness.
