Mitolo 'The Angela' Shiraz 2013

Winemaker's Notes:

Mitolo’s vision is to create individual, handcrafted premium wines built on passion and an uncompromising commitment to quality. McLaren Vale based Mitolo is a family owned winery established in 1999 by Frank Mitolo whose Italian family roots inspired his early interest and enthusiasm for good food and great wine. Winemaker Ben Glaetzer became a partner in the business in 2001. The fusion of Frank’s knowledge of the land and business acumen and Ben’s winemaking talent has resulted in one of Australia’s most awarded wineries. From the approachable Jester range to the high-point scoring premium wines, Mitolo wines has made a name for itself as one of the producers to watch from the McLaren Vale. Overlooking the coast, the vineyard in McLaren Vale has heavy grey loam over sandstone soil with black cracking Biscay clay. Cool afternoon breezes and nights from the proximity to the ocean help produce good acid levels and complex flavours. Deep, bright crimson. Blackberry bramble, plum, and cassis perfumes blend with subtle mint and dried herbs. This Angela Shiraz is a true reflection of vintage, with the low yields producing concentrated wine of a more savoury nature and great structure. Blackberry, olive tapenade, tar and cassis flavours are balanced with bright acidity and subtle vanillin from oak ageing.
