Three and a half glasses
Decanted 4 hours. Darkest wine I've seen in awhile, and very thick, like blackberry syrup. Coating my decanter, glass, mouth, teeth...Nose is beautiful. This is going to be something special! Aromas of dark blackberry fruit with a touch of vanilla and earth. In the mouth, very thick and coating, with blackberries, blueberries, a bit of vanilla 'oakiness', and tasty earthiness that I love. Not to hot, acidic or tannic, and the fruit, while prominent, isn't exploding like a fruitbomb. This is integration! Finish goes on for a minute or more...Astounding wine that makes me wish I'd bought more.
Decanted 1 hour, and enjoyed with BBQ'd buffalo steak, topped with blue cheese. With the food, it was a nice wine. Pre- and post-food, the wine was just BIG: Lots of blueberry fruit, and a huge mouthfull of oak. Surprised nobody else mentioned it, actually. I just got tons of oak with this wine, which made it unenjoyable on its own. A bit hot still as well, burning all the way down the throat. Not very complex, just a lot of fruit, oak and heat, with decent acidity also. I've certainly had better from Mitolo.

Admirable colour; crammed with flavour, some bordering on confit; the three 09 red wines are (remarkably) all 14.9%; but get away with it except for this wine, which is quite soupy. James Halliday. A Syrah wine from South Australia in Australia. 2009 Mitolo Shiraz Reiver 750ml
Bright violet. Black and blue fruits on the nose, with smoky oak, cola and mocha nuances adding complexity. Lush and expansive, offering sweet blackberry and boysenberry flavors lifted by gentle acidity. Aeration brings up an exotic floral pastill... Stephen Tanzers IWC. The 2006 Shiraz ?Reiver? is sourced from a single vineyard in the Greenock region of the Barossa Valley. The average age of the vines is 60 years. Opaque purple in color, it has a enthralling perfume of saddle leather, truffle, violets, pepper, blueberry, toast, and blackberry. This leads to a full-bodied wine which manages to retain elegance. Opulent, ripe, and layered with spicy blue and black fruits, the wine has enough underlying structure for extended cellaring. Nicely integrated and long in the finish, it can be enjoyed over the next 12-15 years.
