Mitolo Jester Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Winemaker's Notes:

Colour: Deep and vibrant garnet red. Nose: Bright and fresh cassis, violet with typical tobacco leaf and minty herbals. Palate: Full bodied, bright flavours of red cherry, cassis complemented by more savoury dark chocolate, dusty tobacco and dried herb with tight, bright acidity and a soft framework of tannin albeit a grainy textured finish thanks to the dried fruit portion.

Very dark, deep garnet color. If not for the red ring showing around the top edge when it sits in the glass you could almost swear it's pitch black. Black cherry, blackberry and a hint of vanilla on the nose. Big cherry bomb on the palate and a ton of vanilla. There's also a hint of "sweetness" on the palate that I'm sure comes from the winemaking method of using 20% dried grapes. Some pepper and clove on the finish. Finish lingers for quite some time. Tannins are there but do not show the grip I'm used to in a cab (I drink more Cali cabs than Aussie) However, considering that this is a different style and not a traditional cab, it's quite a nice and different experience. Good stuff. 4.0 glass rating.

really nice example of a different category of cabernet. whereas most cabs are savory, this one tends more towards a dessert theme with a delicate blend of rich blackberry, clove, vanilla, and even some chocolate notes.

85 points: Brought to a party. Decanted for 3 hours prior. From what I remember, initially the wine was too cold (sitting in the car). It had a strong alcohol bite in the beginning and some tart fruits. I let it sit for a while to get near room temp. I am so glad I did. Now, once at room temp, it was much more enjoyable. Some nice black fruits on the first taste. The alcohol mellowed out and the finish was smooth. Sorry, wish I had better recall of it. I do know that once it got to ideal conditions, it was pretty good.

Bright, lush and juicy, Jester Cabernet Sauvignon shows a full bodied palate and mouth filling richness. 20% of the fruit has been handled in the Amarone manner- this technique of drying fruit adds complexity and fullness and produces soft juicy tannins.

Opaque ruby. Youthful, high-pitched aromas of red and dark berries, with a touch of anise. Juicy, palate-staining black raspberry and licorice flavors are enlivened by zesty minerality, picking up a spicy quality with air. Nervy and pure on the long, spicy aftertaste. No excess fat here.

The color is deep red with a dense black center, and the nose gives tantalising aromas of chocolate, blackcurrants, with hints of nutmeg, cloves and star anise. It is a beautifully rich Cabernet with superb depth of seamless fruit.

The 2008 Jester “Monarco” Cabernet Sauvignon has a very deep garnet-purple color and intense notes of warm blackberry, prunes, some dark chocolate, kirsch and creme de cassis. The palate is rich and full bodied with plenty of juicy fruit, plus high acidity and a medium level of soft tannins to lend support. The finish is long. Drinking now, it should cellar to 2014+.

The 2007 Jester Cabernet Sauvignon spent 11 months in oak. Purple-colored, the nose reveals smoke, black currant and cassis. This leads to a medium to full-bodied ripe wine with excellent depth and concentration. Currently the wine is a bit tight but 1ndash;2 years of additional bottle age should round it out nicely. It should be at its peak from 2010 to 2017.

Lithe and open-textured, with pretty currant and blackberry flavors, finishing with a spicy note and lingering well. Has a generosity and purity of flavor that sets it apart. Drink now.

The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon ldquo;Jesterrdquo; includes 20% dried grapes in the style of Amarone. Purple-colored, it has a fragrant bouquet of black fruits, tar, and violets. This leads to a smooth-textured, layered, dense wine with enough structure to evolve for 4ndash;6 years. It has a long, pure finish and can be enjoyed over the next 15ndash;20 years. It is a superb value in Cabernet Sauvignon.
