Crazy intense mulberry jam, nose, oaky for sure, very ripe fruit, over ripe, balsamic, intense almost minty, licorice spiced fruit that has a blackberry ice cream quality to it with nutty, pistachio like top notes and plenty of wood veneer, deep and matte on the palate, soft, broad with heavy dark cherry fruit, black plum edges, bitter cocoa framing notes and a bit of a hollow middle. This is rich and frankly a bit dense but also a bit closed today. Black, tight and short on the finish with lots of fruit tannins shutting things down and some wood tannins turning splintery on the palate. This needs plenty of time and is packed with potential. 90pts

Miolo's history starts back in 1897 when Giuseppe Miolo from Italian's (Veneto) Miolo Family arrived in Brazil where today is located what we call Wine Valley in southern Brazil. As most Italians, they brought to Brazil they love for wine and found there at Wine Valley one of, if not the best terroir in Brazil. Since then they got the recognition of great wine producers, but only in the '90s, leaded by Giuseppe's grandchildren Darci, Antonio and Paulo Miolo, they begun to produce wines with the label MIOLO. The first bottle was released in 1992, a Family Reserve Merlot 1990, the grape that is very well adapted to the Valley. Besides other grapes and brands Miolo started a Quality Program in 1998 that changed the Wine industry in Brazil, investing a lot on tecnology, human resources and most important new terroirs and grapes varieties. In 2004 Miolo was present at the 5 best Brazilian terroirs, with some joint ventures and new Brands created, stabilishin the company as the biggest fine wine business in Brazilian market. Diversity and new styles of wines was the main objevtive and Miolo has more then 70 labels, from Seleção brand (Brazilian bestseller) to Lote 43 and Merlot Terroir (Brazilian iconics wines). In 2006 MIOLO WINE GROUP was born, strategics alliances and international market was the main objective of the company and Miolo has since then 8 different projects: Miolo Winery (Wine Valley) Fazenda do Seival Vineyards (Southern Brazil) Fazenda Ouro Verde (Brazilian Northeast) RAR (Southern Brazil with 1.000m elevations) Lovara (Southern Brazil) ViaSul - Costa Pacífico ( Chile ) Bodegas Osborne (Spain) Los Nevados (Mendoza Lujan de Cuyo ARG) And the last, buyed last week from Pernod Ricard, Almadén Winery (National Leader at its price range) Now, Miolo is the biggest Wine Business in Brazil (20+% of market share) and has more than 1100 hectares of vineyards selling about 12million liters/years . Today Miolo is proudly representing Brazilian wine overseas, representing the national terroir in 22 countries around the globe, leading Wines from Brazil exportation program.
