What to Expect

Petite Sirah is one of a group of grapes that took to a new home - in this case California - after moving from the relative obscurity enjoyed at its birthplace - France in this case - where it is called Duriff. While never particularly elegant nor subtle, Petite Sirah can produce large-scaled, intense wines with bright flavors of blue and plummy fruits, rich with earthy tannins.

Winemakers Notes

The pristine Palisades Vineyard farmed by the Sutro family in northern Napa Valley has long been our go-to source for this limited release wine. This classically full-bodied, intense wine offers up lusty aromas and flavors of blueberries, violets and pepper spice. With rich tannins, well-integrated oak and acidity, this wine promises a combination of drinkability and excellent aging potential.Drink now through 2017.Appellation: 100% Napa Valley Varietal Content: 100% Petite SirahAlcohol 14.4%Barrel Aging: 20 months in 60% new French oak Release Date: Fall 2008Cases produced: 315 (limited production)

Editorial Reviews

_mg_1450.jpgsr-45.gif12) Miner Petite Sirah 2005 $40 14.4%

Inky yet crisp smelling with a touch of sulfur to lose. Smells lightly cherried and very tarry with plenty of prosciutto and grilled meats. Quite elegant in the mouth with a decidedly black cherry fruit profile. Lot’s of tannins but well balanced with a rather refined feel and a distinct lack of extraction which keeps it light on it’s feet. Juicy and focused on the finish. Which has solid length and a nice touch of minerality/chalkiness. A claret styled PS with wonderful fruit and balance destined for a long life. 91pts
