Big herbal and earth-driven nose, with dog pooh, dirt, clay, caliche and wide range of earth and vegetable aromas. Dill, plum, currant, citrus and cherry emerge in the middle. Initially astringent and very earthy in the mouth, with tastes of heavy dirt and clay decorated with notes of currant, cherry, plum, mocha, oregano, parsley, and pepper. A peppery, spicy, herbaceous finish ends with a slight harshness. Becomes smoother and less harsh the longer it’s open, up to 4 hours.

Sorry I can't explain the finer nuances of wines as of yet, but I'll give it a go. Please instruct if you've had this selection. The aroma is fruity, a little spicy, the flavor seems tannic, earthy, yet precise, and it seems medium to full-bodied. I may have noticed a chocolatey flavor at the finish. I'm not sure that it is worth $20, but it was a gift and I really enjoyed it (all by myself, at that!)

Wine Tasting NotesRichly woven red fruit flavors with mocha and some slight earthy-cedar box aromas, our Merlot has a wonderful round mouthfeel. Challenged by the rocky volcanic soils of this mountainous vineyard site, the vines at Stagecoach produce fruit of extraordinary quality and intensity.
