Miles Mossop 'Saskia' Chenin Blanc Viognier 2010

Winemaker's Notes:

Miles Mossop is one to watch. Tipped as one of South Africa's greatest young winemakers, he is already receiving accolade after accolade and his Saskia has been awarded 5 Stars in the John Platter Guide.Interestingly, Mossop picks his Chenin Blanc grapes twice in the season. The first picking is quite early for freshness, minerality and length in the wine. The second once the botrytis infection and raisining has begun for flavour, richness and complexity.Saskia Chenin and Viognier are barrel aged seperately on the lees for around 10 months then moved back to the tank for blending. This wine combines flavours of dried apricots, peaches and lime with toasted almonds and a hint of white pepper to finish. A superbly balanced wine that deserves to be savoured.Only 5700 bottles of this vintage were produced so it wont be available forever!

Production is limited to 15 tons in total which results in 400 cases of the white and 500 cases of the red being produced. These are truly handcrafted wines showing pure fruit expression and more importantly a sense of place. Read less
