Migration Goldeneye Pinot Noir Russian River Valley 2015

Winemaker's Notes:

Classic Russian River Valley aromas of ripe red raspberry, Bing cherry and pomegranate explode from the glass. These vibrant red berry flavors are echoed on the lush, silky palate, where they mingle with notes of blackberry and hints of French oak-inspired spice. Alcohol 14.1%.

Sweet on the nose with a strong vein of cola and spice tinged cherry fruit that gains a rather prominent medicinal/cough syrup quality. Very treebarky and smoky forest floor emerge with air and there is a gentle nuttiness with green walnut tones. Round and soft, a touch chewy and dense with dark spice and cola tones, RC cola. Nice structure but a bit blocky with an overt wood tones and a hovering vanilla sweetness. Finishes a bit short with tannins that are still a touch austere. 85pts

Dark berries, strawberries, lots of smoked/charred oak, and a spot of cocoa/tobacco on the nose. The barrel-derived flavors dominate. There is a smooth tannic attack, and it stays on the palate for a bit. The sweet chocolate butteriness adds well to the length, and it is all-around well balanced and pleasant to drink. It manages to be large and also elegant.

immediate aromas of cherries, with hints of pepper and spice, the palate has hints of earth, tar and papery dried tea leaves, elegant and light with a peppery finish, tannins pronounced and provide a good backbone

The aroma features plum, white/milk chocolate, and lots of berry, most of all blueberries, with a litle earthy after taste. I would say that it is more the Burgundy style than the powerful and sweet Russian River Valley Pinots. I would give the wine at least an hour to open up. Great value for money.

Almost as amazing as the Goldeneye Pinot and not as pricey.

Our exploration has taken us to the storied vineyards of California s Russian River Valley, where clockwork fog and Goldridge sandy loam soils have contributed to a Pinot Noir with beautiful, high-tone red fruit flavors of strawberry, cherry and cranberry and enticing hints of orange-cinnamon spice.

In the mouth sweet spices abound cinnamon in particular along with dense plum, and notes of cola and vanilla all followed by an edge of earthiness, mushroom, and forest floor in the finish.
