Michele Chiarlo was born in the Monferrato region of Piemonte where his family has grown grapes for over 5 generations. In 1956 he decided to start a small winery in Calamandrana, a small village nestling in some of Monferratos finest hillside vineyards. Armed with enthusiasm and an iron will, he worked hard to make the best wines possible. His 'Le Vigne di Chiarlo Rosso Monferrato' has won many awards worldwide and his wines are now recognised as being amongst Italys top red wines. Thanks to this recognition, the company has been awarded the much sought-after Stella star which the Italian Wine Guide bestows on wineries that have received the 3 Bicchieri ten times. Grapes : 50% Barbera, 40% Nebbiolo, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon Region: Italy / Piedmont / Monferrato DOC Maker : Stefano Chiarlo and Gianni Meleni Notes : Superb, surprisingly fruity nose of great breadth and freshness; there are evident notes of woodland fruit and sweet spices, harmoniously matched. A great impact,with optimum roundness, freshness and pleasantness, it possesses extremely well integrated, delicate tannins. Serve : At 16 - 17C Perfect for pasta dishes (with meat sauces, tomato sauces, and fish), it goes very well with cold meats (chicken and rabbit) and noble cold cuts (ham,Tyrol smoked ham, fine salami and cold pork) ABV : 13% Suitable for Vegetarians
