The bodega is situated in the foothills of the Andes in the Cafayate region around Salta in Northwest Argentina in one of the most scenic regions of this country. The vineyards are planted at 1,700 metres making them the highest commercial sites in the world. Cool climate plays a key part with great variations between night and day time temperatures, slowing down the ripening cycle and ensuring the development of good varietal character. The hallmark of Salta red wines is the great intensity of colour while the white wines, Torrontes in particular, are fresh and appealing. Michel Torino is well recognised on the international market and is renowned for its excellent wine quality, elegant label design and premium presentation. Vintage: Grapes: 100% Estate grown Malbec grapes grown at an altitude of 1,700m above sea level on Michel Torino's Estate in the Valley of Cafayate Harvest: Hand picked during the first week of March Winemaking: 70% of the wine is aged in small barrels of both American and French oak for 12 months. 100% of the wine goes through malolatic fermentation spontaneously. Colour: Vivacious red with violet sparkles and cherry edges. A noble tear indicates its firm structure. Serve: At room temperature with grilled meats, stews, filled pasta and spicy meat dishes Taste: Plum jam and raisins combined with pip tobacco, vanilla and toast notes dominate the nose. Fruity attack full of sweet tannins and a soft presence of cassis. Harmonious and well balanced in the mouth. Dry fruits such as almonds and nuts appear at the end giving a very pleasant finish.

Winemaker's Notes:

This wine comes from the Bodega El Esteco winery in the Salta province of Argentina. The winery was created in 1892 under the name Michel Torino Bros La Rosa Wineries. In 1994, it was sold to Félix Lávaque, a winemaker who in turn sold it to a Swiss group that gave the company the image it has today: a premium winemaker. This Malbec has concentrated aromas of red fruit, spices and toasted notes from the oak. The wine is rich and complex and has a very long and attractive aftertaste due to its round and full ripe tannins. This wine would be ideal with spicy meat dishes.
