Very classic Mendoza malbec. Great value for the price. A perfect wine to always have around for those unannounced visitors! Check out their website below! Don David Website
Concentrated black fruit is at the center of this wine, ripe and powerful, impenetrable. Even so, a spine of acidity balances all that fruit, keeping the wine firm and tense. Serve it with ripe cheeses.
Displaying expressive plum jam, raisin and pipe tobacco aromas, with toasty vanilla notes, the wine has balanced, spicy dark fruits and cassis, almond and nutty notes on the long finish. - Winery
Cafayate Valley, ArgentinaDon David Malbec Reserve is our latest wine gem from Argentina, from Michel Torino. With over 1500 acres of vineyards standing at 5500-6600 feet above sea level, Michel Torino is the most important winery in the Cafayate Valley of Argentina. No ratings yet on the 2011 vintage, but the 2010 vintage received 90 points from Parker!Brothers Salvador and David Michel founded the winery in 1892, 22 years after discovering the Cafayate as an area suitable for fine wine production. The Cafayate Valley averages 330-340 sunny days per year, and has low humidity and a great thermal range, with evenly warm days (82 degrees) and cool nights (54 degrees). Irrigation is mandatory, as only 3-6 inches of rain fall per year. All of the Michel Torino wines are hand-harvested in the estate's own vineyards. Additionally, Andrs Hy, Torino's production manager, practices sustainable, environmentally- friendly farming by minimizing the use of fertilizers and chemicals in the vineyard. The unique Cafayete climate manifests itself in the elegant, focused profile of Michel Torino's wines. These are wines with an indelible sense of place, wines which complement food rather than overpower, wines which are true to their origin.Grapes are carefully chosen from Michel Torino's own estate, in the 'La Coleccion' vineyard. The vineyard rests in the province of Salta in Cafayate Valley, at an altitude of 5600 ft. above sea level. The grapes are stemmed and crushed with a roller system. Fermentation is done with selected yeasts at controlled temperatures of 82-86F. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation. The wine is then aged for 12 months in oak barrels of first to fifth use (60% American, 40% French).Don David Malbec Reserve is a rich red with full body and flavors of blackberry, plum, black raspberry, cedar and spice. Enjoy it over the next 10-12 years with roast beef, grilled meats, venison, roasts, and BBQ ribs.
While showing roasted, tomato-like aromas, this Malbec from northern Argentina also features a nose full of tobacco, earth and berry fruit. There’s acidic snap to the palate, but that only pumps up raspberry, toast and mild herbal flavors. A spicy, woody finish tastes exotic and saucy.
(from vines on poor rocky soil at an altitude of 6,200 feet; aged entirely in new oak, 70% French and 30% American): Saturated medium ruby. Musky, slightly high-toned aromas of blackberry, mocha, licorice and violet, lifted by a peppery nuance. At once smooth and vibrant, with strong, harmonious acidity framing the penetrating flavors of blackberry, spices, violet, licorice and herbs. Plenty of oak here but nicely supported by intense fruit. Not at all a sweet style, but finishes with suave tannins, a whiff of herbs and excellent length.
RECOMMENDED - Decanter World Wine Awards 2010 The bodega is situated in the foothills of the Andes in the Cafayate region around Salta in Northwest Argentina in one of the most scenic regions of this country. The vineyards are planted at 1,700 metres making them the highest commercial sites in the world. Cool climate plays a key part with great variations between night and day time temperatures, slowing down the ripening cycle and ensuring the development of good varietal character. The hallmark of Salta red wines is the great intensity of colour. Michel Torino is well recognised on the international market and is renowned for its excellent wine quality, elegant label design and premium presentation. Grapes : 100% Estate grown Malbec Region : Argentina / Salta / Cafayate Maker : Alejandro Pepa Notes : Plum jam and raisins combined with pipe tobacco, vanilla and toast notes dominate the nose.
