Michel Torino Cuma Torrontes Organic 2016

Member Review by zufrieden:

This organic Torrontés is more intriguing than most of the examples one finds; the nose is highly aromatic and indeed exotic: the scent of rosewater and even jasmine is evident. On the palate, there is spicy star anise and ginger along with apricot. More serious than most examples, this wine should interest those with a more experimental bent. Let's hope for more of this quality at this price. 87 points.

The Winery was founded in 1892 when the French brothers David and Salvador, planted the first vines. They were attracted by the benign climate, the beauty of the landscape and Cafayate Valley unique Terroir, good for quality grapes production. The winery took it's name from the legend of El Esteco City. According to this tale, Esteco was an opulent city in the north of Argentina. Its buildings, covered with silver shone and its people dressed in gold. In 1692 an earthquake buried the city and his its treasures. In the late 1970's the company bought the El Esteco estate and recovered the hidden treasure. We discovered the riches came from the soil. In honour to the legend, El Esteco produces the best grapes used for Michel Torino top export wines. Read less

I liked this wine but I found the taste too green, I would buy it again but I would have to be in the mood for green taste. Somewhat acidic off dry wine, light and otherwise crisp.

Rate 4.2 Wonderful, light fragrant wine. Good muscat open but finish abrupt, not tapered. But that won't stop me from drinking a lot of it.

The bodega is situated in the foothills of the Andes in the Cafayate region around Salta in Northwest Argentina in one of the most scenic regions of this country. The vineyards are planted at 1,700 metres making them the highest commercial sites in the world. Cool climate plays a key part with great variations between night and day time temperatures, slowing down the ripening cycle and ensuring the development of good varietal character. The hallmark of Salta red wines is the great intensity of colour while the white wines, Torrontes in particular, are fresh and appealing. Michel Torino is well recognised on the international market and is renowned for its excellent wine quality, elegant label design and premium presentation. Vintage: 2009 Grapes: 100% Estate grown Torrontes organic grapes grown at an altitude of 1,700m above sea level on Michel Torinos Estate in the Valley of Cafayate Winemaking: All organic processes used to make this wine. No oak, fermented in stainless steel. Alc/vol 13.5% Colour: Bright green-yellow colour with pale tones and gold sparkle Taste: Incredible fresh and floral. Great and kind acidity. Intense notes of fresh fruits such as peaches and a final floral taste, typical from the grape.
