Michel Torino 'Cuma' Malbec 2018

Member Review by enotheque:

Cafayate in Salta provides a completely distinctive expression for Malbec. This one is herb heavy, with rocks and medium acidity to match the baked cherry/berry flavors.

The Winery was founded in 1892 when the French brothers David and Salvador, planted the first vines. They were attracted by the benign climate, the beauty of the landscape and Cafayate Valley unique Terroir, good for quality grapes production. The winery took it's name from the legend of El Esteco City. According to this tale, Esteco was an opulent city in the north of Argentina. Its buildings, covered with silver shone and its people dressed in gold. In 1692 an earthquake buried the city and his its treasures. In the late 1970's the company bought the El Esteco estate and recovered the hidden treasure. We discovered the riches came from the soil. In honour to the legend, El Esteco produces the best grapes used for Michel Torino top export wines. Read less

Really nice and soft tanins, but nothing special on a nose.

This wine had a stronger finish than I expected. Overall it was good, but nothing really stood out.

It is concentrated aromas of red fruit, spices and toasted notes from the oak. Rich and complex flavour with a very long and attractive aftertaste due to its round and full ripe tannins. It is ideal with spicy meat dishes. Its soft and silky entry. Round and well balanced tannins. Plum and mint notes prevail together with a sweet tobacco aftertaste.

The Cuma Malbec bodega is situated in the foothills of the Andes, in the Cafayate region around Salta, in Northwest Argentina in one of the most scenic regions of this country. The vineyards are planted at 1,900 metres making them the highest commercial sites in the world. Cool climate plays a key part with great variations between night and day time temperatures, slowing down the ripening cycle and ensuring the development of good varietal character. The hallmark of Salta red wines is the great intensity of colour and stunning abundance of fruit making these wines from the Michel Torino estates very appealing indeed. Michel Torino is well recognised on the international market and is renowned for its excellent wine quality, elegant label design and premium presentation. This Malbec has to be one of the best examples of Malbec from Argentina. Grapes: 100% Estate grown Malbec grapes grown at an...
