Michel Lafarge describes the 2002 growing season as a miracle. The summer months were uneventful but gave us no reason to suspect potential greatness was in the offing. As August came and went, we were all on pins and needles as the conditions were perfect for the rapid spread of rot. Once the north wind started blowing however, it dried up the rot and gave us cool nights with a lot of light if not heat during the day. As such, we were able to take our time and harvest each parcel at the ideal moment. Another pleasant surprise was how the wines kept improving during the course of the élevage.
