Michel Colin-Delegner et Fils Chassagne-Montrachet Vielles Vignes 1997

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of wine from the website www.bidforwine.co.uk/auctions/show/31426 for the bargain price of £5.73.Chassagne-Montrachet is an appellation created in 1937 for both red and white wines from around the village of that name on the Cotes de Beaune in the Burgundy region. Before 1879 it was known as Chassagne-le-Haut but in that year the name of the most prestigious Grand Cru vineyard in the area was appended instead.Michel Colin-Delegner et fils is a small family concern consisting of father Michel and sons Bruno and Philipe with 8 hectares under vine scattered over several vineyards and appellations on the Cotes de Beaune making both red and white wines.I started my bottle on Sunday as an accompaniment to my steak and I have to report that it is a gorgeous Burgundy. There is plenty of a cherry or raspberry like fruit there and it is subtle and delicate although it does have tannins. It manages to be smooth and mellow without being bland like one or two Burgundies.I think it a quality wine worthy of high marks
