For Michael Sullberg it all started with a stint at Olympia Brewing Company’s wine department. From there, he made his way down to California, spending time in Napa, Sonoma, Russian River Valley and Alexander Valley in the early 1980’s. Michael fell in love with the area and all involved. Burgeoning relationships with the vineyard owners and growers of the area brought an opportunity to represent their wine in Oregon. After meeting Chip Lyeth, they started The Negotiants (a custom brand division of Lyeth wines). It wasn’t until 1990 that Michael Sullberg Wines was created. For more than three decades, Michael Sullberg and family have worked to create a line of high quality wines at everyday prices. Following in her father’s footsteps, Leah Sullberg carries on the brand today, nurturing her father’s relationships with growers across California to deliver on her family’s commitment to Michael Sullberg Family Wines. This is super solid for $10 and I'm not a merlot fan. Smell is my favorite. Very expressive. Cherry, something savory like tomato, a mineral edge like crushed rock. Soars from the glass. French oak..lightly sweet vanilla, black fruit like prune and tart blackberry, with more slightly tart red cherry and thin tomato puree. Pleasantly dry finish, alcohol is medium plus. A winner for everyday or by the glass.
