Michael Pozzan Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley Annabella 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

Aged 14 months in French and American oakThis is a full-bodied Cabernet with layers of complex dark fruit. Ripe and smooth in texture with concentrated flavors of plum, cedar, and anise. Well-focused tannins balance perfectly with the rich fruit. It would pair quite well with a roast lamb, barbecued rib eyes, or grilled garlic pork with fresh herbs. 10,000 cases produced.100% Napa Valley100% Cabernet Sauvignon

Michael Pozzan Winery is owned and operated by Michael and Mary Ann Pozzan, both natives of California. Michael was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, but spent his summer months with his grandparents on their 35 acre vineyard estate in Sonoma County. Michael's grandfather purchased the land in the town of Healdsburg after WWII and planted Zinfandel grapes which he sold to local wineries. He always made sure that he retained a portion of the grapes to make his own wine. With roots extending to Piemonte, Italy, Michael's family still owns the original vineyard that Michael's great grandfather planted over 100 years ago. Michael has benefited greatly from his family's experience and expertise, and has continued the tradition by creating fine wines here in California. Michael Pozzan Winery was founded in 1991 and is based in Oakville, California, in the heart of the Napa Valley. The winery currently produces 95,000 cases a year and distributes its wine throughout the United States in selected markets. The wine is sold under four labels, Michael Pozzan, Annabella, Dante, and Contrada. The Michael Pozzan Reserve wines, produced from grapes grown in the Napa and Sonoma regions, are of the finest quality and have won numerous medals and awards. The collection includes Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. The Annabella line is a collection of Napa wines that are sourced from premium vineyards throughout the valley. Named in honor of Michael's grandmother, they include a Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Merlot. These wines represent not only quality, but value as well. Because of their popularity, the Annabella wines are allocated on an annual basis. The Dante Wine Collection was inspired by Michael's travels through the Tuscan countryside and is named after Michael and Mary Ann's eldest son, Michael Dante Pozzan. The collection includes a Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. They are made in the Italian style with well-balanced fruit and nice acid, which allows the wines to match well with a variety of foods. The Contrada wines are the latest creation for Michael Pozzan Winery. Contrada refers to the small neighborhoods found in the northern Tuscany region of Italy. These handcrafted wines are reminiscent of the local wines produced from that area. Our winery is committed to producing fine wines that represent quality and value. Michael Pozzan wines can be enjoyed with good food, family, friends and all who share the love of wine. Read less

Dry, fruity, with blackberries and brambleberries and schnazberries. Strong sense of self.

Chocolate and flint to start moving into some nice minerality. There's an undercurrent of earthiness and finally that evolves into a tannic finish. Still a little tight, but that may go with age.

We're not afraid to admit that we are complete novices when it comes to the art of wine tastings, but we do know when we like a wine - and we loved this one! I'll spare you the explicit details articulated by my husband, but if he had to break this down in one word, he would call it "erotic". I have to say that I agree with him - this was amazing! I look forward to purchasing another bottle and allowing it to age a bit before trying it again!
