Well...my first experience with a real Zinfandel. Very nice...a more full-bodied experience with a tartness, and lingering tannins which segregate it from a Pint Noir (the earlier beverage I was enjoying), that allow it to stand up and say "Here I am!". I did not at all mind the exclamation...I'm looking forward to an afternoon of nothing but the 7 Zins...to insure my palate is clean...and I'm ready to enjoy. I think this wine deserves it. 2nd round 2 days later. I really enjoyed this wine. Huge vanilla on the nose and the back-end was more pleasant than I remembered. I'm still not experienced enough to pick out individual flavors on the palate...but I do like this Zinfadel. Curious if a single winery Zin will be much different.

Big, ripe and jammy, with an eclectic cobbler of cherry, blueberry, herbs and anise. Appealing if eccentric. Drink now through 2016.

Even better is the 250,000-case cuvee of 100% Zinfandel, the 7 Deadly Zins 2009. This hugely popular wine spends 12 months in both French and American oak. Sexy and endearing, it offers a deep ruby/purple color, full-bodied, corpulent flavors and abundant berry fruit, pepper and spice notes. Drink this seductive, full throttle, classic Zinfandel over the next several years. This is Michael David's flagship Zin, a mighty production that's popular and well-priced at $16. Full of big, ripe flavors of bacon, black fruit and toasty oak, it's plummy, juicy, full-octane-flavored, peppery, all you want in a Zin of this style. V.B. ** SOLD OUT **

Winemaker's Notes:

Notes of sweet plums and pepper dominate the nose while flavors of blueberry, raspberry, cinnamon, and black pepper pack the palate from start to finish. The silky-smooth tannins hold the wine together and deliver a soft, fruit-driven experience.
