Mezzacorona Pinot Grigio 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

Mezzacorona cultivates its own grapes in heart of the Dolomites along the Italian Alps. Every field is planted with single varietals and 100% single varietal wines are offered to the final consumer. The climate of the Italian Dolomites is characterized by a warm Mediterranean influence from the south and crystal clear sunlight. A fresh and wild breeze blows from the over 400 lakes and numerous glaciers of the surrounding mountains, peaking at over 9,000 feet. It is the ideal environment to create elegant, vivid and crispy varietal wines. The state-of-the-art wineries of Mezzacorona and the expertise of over 100 years of winemaking tradition preserve the elegance and crispiness of the solid and consistent wines that American consumers enjoy. This Pinot Grigio is very clean and nicely balanced Pinot Grigio. It has a gentle floral aroma, good medium weight in the mouth, and a refreshing finish.

Responsible for overseeing Gruppo Mezzacorona, the Mezzacorona Societa Cooperativa Agricola was founded in 1904 as one of the first growers associations in Italy.  Currently occupying just under 6,500 acres at the foot of the Italian Dolomites, Gruppo Mezzacorona which produces all Mezzacorona products, combines both the traditional pergola system of growing with the more modern espalier system for enological operations.  While staying true to the natural balance of the grapes, Mezzacorona is equipped with the most modern enological equipment allowing them to produce upwards of 8 million gallons of wine annually. Wine production focuses on quality white production with special attention paid to their Pinot Grigios and Chardonnays, both grapes coming from the Valle dell’ Adige section of the vineyards.  Red production is centered on the Teroldego, followed closely by their Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, harvesting the grapes from the Piana Rotaliana and Lake Garda regions, respectively. Renowned for their consistent quality, Mezzacorona wines benefit from the unique landscape of the Trentino and Alto Adige regions of Italy.  For years Mezzacorona’s renowned winemakers have planted varietals in locations best suited for that varietal, being sure to takeg advantage of all the micro-climates the region has to offer. I bought a case of this just for cooking. I can't say enough about it. It magnifies all the flavors of my vin blancs, beurre blancs, vesuvios and reductions incomparable to similar value pinot grigios. I'm on the last bottle and definitely going to pick up another couple of cases. "Smooth, fresh, fruity"

I love this wine! It has a very fruity flavor and not alot of the "alcohol taste" or in other words, its smooth with no burn or bite.

Refereshing and surprisingly rich, this Pinot Grigio from Wine Enthusiast Magazine's European Winery of the Year is a super value. Balanced with bright acidity because the grapes come from the cool climate vineyards in Northern Italy's Dolomite mountains, this perpetual Best Buy is a wine to enjoy.
