Mezzacorona Moscato Hrz 2010

Member Review by Chris Carpita:

Bright and peachy aroma, with a sickeningly sweet taste, lots of pineapple on the finish.

Responsible for overseeing Gruppo Mezzacorona, the Mezzacorona Societa Cooperativa Agricola was founded in 1904 as one of the first growers associations in Italy.  Currently occupying just under 6,500 acres at the foot of the Italian Dolomites, Gruppo Mezzacorona which produces all Mezzacorona products, combines both the traditional pergola system of growing with the more modern espalier system for enological operations.  While staying true to the natural balance of the grapes, Mezzacorona is equipped with the most modern enological equipment allowing them to produce upwards of 8 million gallons of wine annually. Wine production focuses on quality white production with special attention paid to their Pinot Grigios and Chardonnays, both grapes coming from the Valle dell’ Adige section of the vineyards.  Red production is centered on the Teroldego, followed closely by their Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, harvesting the grapes from the Piana Rotaliana and Lake Garda regions, respectively. Renowned for their consistent quality, Mezzacorona wines benefit from the unique landscape of the Trentino and Alto Adige regions of Italy.  For years Mezzacorona’s renowned winemakers have planted varietals in locations best suited for that varietal, being sure to takeg advantage of all the micro-climates the region has to offer. Mezza is right, more like meh. Not as good as other Muscats. This one is 11.5% alcohol; rather dry with a taste of unripe peaches. I tried mixing it with 7up, but I think I'll make seafood crepes with this instead.

if you like candy in a liquid form you will love this...if you like wine do bother. I think it has 7% alc. which tells you a lot...

Perhaps I bought a bottle that had been exposed to heat; mine was not at all sweet, tasted more like a chardonnay than moscato, had no redeeming qualities, I actually poured the rest down the drain. Life's too short to drink bad wine, there's a reason this was so inexpensive.

This From Wine Enthusiast Magazine's European Winery of the Year 2009, is a super value. Balanced with bright acidity because the grapes come from the cool climate vineyards in the foothills of Northern Italy's Dolomite Mountains, this Moscato is an aperitif extraordinaire. Intense notes of tropical fruit, white peach and apricot along with zesty baking spice. A hint of sweetness is balanced by lively acidity and notes of bitter almond.
