Meursault Cromins 1999

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of wine from the website www.bidforwine.co.uk/auctions/show/32175 for £15.50.Meursault is an AOC for red and white wines on the Cotes de Beaune in Burgundy although 98% of production is white chardonnay. My bottle was made by La Cave de Pommard [ www.cavedepommard.fr] .I drank it at the weekend with a meal of fish in cheese sauce and I enjoyed it.It is fairly dry although there is plenty of fruit [think peaches and apples].However I would not describe it as buttery so it is probably only very lightly oaked if at all..I thought that the last white Burgundy I had the Blason de Bourgogne Montagny Vieilles Vignes 2009 was better. It is still a quality product though

That very fact makes it unique. Its terroir draws its strength from a clay and limestone soil that was formed in the Upper Jurassic age and the microclimate that prevails in the vineyard. Each plot has its own identity, which is why Philippe Charlopin, the master winemaker, makes the wine from them separately. The quintessence of Pommard is expressed by the old vines, which bring out the best of pinot noir. As the grapes turn into Pommard wine, the vine stocks and the terroir exult, to produce the most exciting tastes. Read less
