What to Expect

Petite Sirah is one of a group of grapes that took to a new home - in this case California - after moving from the relative obscurity enjoyed at its birthplace - France in this case - where it is called Duriff. While never particularly elegant nor subtle, Petite Sirah can produce large-scaled, intense wines with bright flavors of blue and plummy fruits, rich with earthy tannins.

Winemakers Notes

The Mettler family heritage honors 100 years and five generations of farming in Lodi with the release of our exceptional Petite Sirah. The size of the crop, the time spent on the vine, and the many months aged in French oak barrels all reflect the care our family took to fully express the potential of this very small and unique portion of our vineyard holdings. The Lodi micro-climate is a true Mediterranean climate - excellent for growing Petite Sirah. The high daytime temperatures are tempered by Delta breezes which flow through the area in the evenings and cool down the fruit dramatically. A rich read more...

Reviews

The Mettler Petite Sirah has a deep purple color that practically stains the glass. Beautiful aromas of boysenberries and blueberries emerge with a touch of coffee laced with Swiss chocolate. As appealing as the aromas, the flavors are a treat. Blueberry and blackberry flavors dance on the tongue, laced with high notes of spice, while the mouth-feel is jammy and full. A delightful floral characteristic enhances a smooth, lingering finish.

Same flavors as the 2005 but not as much punch on the finish.
