Mettler Family Vineyards Zinfandel Lodi Old Vine Zinfandel Epicenter Mettler Family Vineyards 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

The focal point or "Epicenter" of Zinfandel is the Lodi Appellation, known as the Zinfandel Capitol of the World, where more zinfandel is grown than anywhere else . The true epicenter for exquisite zinfandels grown in a mediterranean climate.

Our Zinfandel vineyards are farmed sustainably, and it is this extra attention to detail in the vineyards that we feel helps to produce extraordinary fruit. Our 2006 Zinfandel is our premier release, and an addition to our wine portfolio that our family is thrilled to announce.

Our Zinfandel is harvested from one of our oldest vineyards, where the vines are deeply rooted in sandy loam soils. This Old Vine Zinfandel shows good structure with aromas of wild berry and espresso, giving way to dense tannins and a nice acidity to the finish. This intense, rich and well balanced Zin will captivate you, instantly becoming a focal point in your mind as you yearn for more.

With their roots in the wine industry dating back to the 1770s, it’s no surprise that the Mettler Family is still growing grapes today. After migrating to the U.S. in the late 1800’s, the Mettler family migrated to California, where they knew that farming would bring success. The east side of the now famous Lodi region is where the first Mettler vineyards were planted by George Mettler which began the family's Lodi legacy. Carl Mettler, 4th generation farmer and George’s grandson, continued the family tradition and dedicated his life to farming his grandfather's land. Carl and his wife raised their family amongst their Lodi vineyards. Carl worked closely with nearby Universities and delegated several vineyard sites to experimental varieties. This experimentation helped to establish growing conditions for specific varieties in the Lodi region. Carl's dedication in the vineyard awarded him a spot in the Agricultural Hall of Fame. His integrity and love of the land is still being carried out by one of his three sons, Larry Phillip, who is also the receipient of the Agricultural Hall of Fame award and still farms the original Mettler Vineyards, along with his wife Char and their three children, Kimberly, Kelli and Adam. soft and spicy with the flavors of wild berry lifesaver gummies. sweet long finish with some heat but at 15.6% alcohol it is extremely well contained. paired with buffalo chicken meatballs. good pairing.
