Merryvale Merlot Napa Valley 2005
The 2005 Starmont Merlot displays notes of bright cherry, raspberry, fresh herbs, cedar, vanilla and forest. On the palate, the wine has a soft entry and a rich mid-palate that is followed by notes of chocolate. The finish is rich, complex and lingering. Wine Enthusiast ReviewRated 91Merryvale has a very good track record with Merlot, and the '05 is one of their better efforts in recent years. It's a tannic wine, with quite a bit of astringency, but that lends structure to the black currant flavors, to which new oak adds a touch of smoky cigar box. This fine wine should age well for six years.Wine Tasting NotesOur 2005 Merlot shows exceptional richness and depth with aromas of plums, roasted sage and sweet black cherries framed by mocha and toasted oak. The wine has a soft entry with notes of blackberry pie and fine tannins adding to the long finish. Our favorite pairings include roast duck with a plum sauce, and a selection of sharp cheeses.
