Merry Edwards Sauvignon Blanc Russian River Valley 2012
PinotFile: This wine is barrel fermented with lees stirring, giving it an uncommon richness and complexity on the palate. Moderate straw color and clear in the glass. Perfumed with lychee and floral notes, tasting of fresh melon, pear and pink grapefruit, and laced with bright acidity, this wine is highly versatile at the table. This beautifully crafted wine has none of the unpleasant grassiness found in many Sauvignon Blancs. My favorite California Sauvignon Blanc along with that produced by Soliste. (6/19/13)

High-toned gooseberry, pear, papaya and fig flavors mark this dry, but creamy Sauvignon Blanc. It’s rich with fruit, yet dry on the finish with brisk acidity.
The aroma is floral and mouthwatering, layered with ripe melon, peach and subtle mineral highlights. In the mouth, it is rich and seamlessly well balanced, kicking in a hint of grapefruit, cirrus and pear on the lingering finish.
Pale bright yellow. Restrained but pure aromas of grapefruit pith, ginger and peppery herbs. Supple and plush for sauvignon, even a bit sweet, with a texture that reminded me of chardonnay. Shows a slightly herbal character but I still wanted a bit more cut and varietal lift.
Sophisticated and polished, this wine reflects its mature, low-yielding vineyard components. The aroma is bursting with lychee fruit, fig, guava and ripe pear.
