Merry Edwards Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2011

Winemaker's Notes:

Sophisticated and polished, this wine reflects its mature, low-yielding vineyard components. The aroma is bursting with lychee fruit, fig, guava and ripe pear. This solid fruit core is wrapped in a mantle of subtle, creamy oak, with just a touch of minerality. In the mouth, it shows a vibrant, mouthwatering acidity with a hint of pink grapefruit on the smooth finish.Winery Webstie

The aroma is floral and mouthwatering, layered with ripe melon, peach and subtle mineral highlights. In the mouth, it is rich and seamlessly well balanced, kicking in a hint of grapefruit, cirrus and pear on the lingering finish.

Merry and Ken completed their state-of-the-art winery facility in 2008 on the site of Coopersmith Vineyard. Merry’s focus is on handcrafted wines and site-specific viticulture. This Sauvignon Blanc is one of their most popular wines. More than 50% of the fruit is from vines 25 to 35 years old. Sauvignon Musqué or Savagnin Musqué fruit as it is known in Bordeaux, makes up about 20% of the blend. The wine is barrel fermented with biweekly lees stirring to give the wine richness and texture. This 2011 received much critical acclaim. It scored 93 points from the Connoisseurs Guide and 91 points from the Wine Spectator who said "An aromatic white, with toasty smoke notes up front that give way to peach blossom and honeysuckle details, balancing the ripe peach and nectarine flavors. Features firm acidity, a smooth body and a very spicy finish. Drink now. "
