Winemaker's Notes:
I met Ted Klopp in the late 1980s when he was just beginning to develop his Laguna Ridge property. He had heard I was immersed in the latest clonal research and sought out my opinion about the best selections for his site. I recommended Swan and Pommard for his central Russian River Valley project. As more acreage was planted over the years, he continued to diversify by adding several Dijon clones: 115, 777 and 667. This assortment has served us well. Depending on the conditions each vintage, one or more of these clones always provide the unique personality that is Klopp Ranch.A consistent star in our portfolio since the first vineyard designate in 1999, there has been no holding back the intensity of this Pinots mouthwatering aroma. Packed with blackberry, dark cherry, black raspberry and Santa Rosa plum, this wine virtually explodes out of the glass. Its full of ripe, luscious fruit and cola with accents of toasted oak and cocoa. On the palate, the tannins are powerful, yet lush and smooth, another hallmark of this wines ageable nature.Its multidimensional character goes well with complex dishes like grilled venison served with cauliflower tagine. This juicy, delicious wine is bold enough to accompany a traditional standing prime rib, Yorkshire pudding and a mélange of oven-roasted root vegetables. Many Klopp fans tell us that this Pinot even pairs well with dark chocolate truffles!
