Merry Edwards Pinot Noir Russian River Valley Meredith Estate 2009
The aroma is deeply layered, opening with the distinctive white pepper signature of the 2009 vintage. This quickly expands into a perfume rich with blueberries, wild roses, plums, blackberries, lavender and violets. Accents of exotic Indian spice, sweet pipe tobacco and vanilla bean heighten the experience. On the palate, its fine bones support layers of full, generous tannin and acidity. This Pinot, though tightly wound, is poised, just waiting for time to release its full potential.
Merry Edwards handcrafts artisanal Pinot Noirs, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chardonnay in the Russian River Valley of Sonoma, CA.
Merry Edwards continues to be a benchmark producer for California Pinot and this year's Meredith keeps that reputation going. There's something faintly floral about the nose coming alongside blueberries, pepper and spice. The palate is richly layered, with perfect acidity and more tannins than you might expecting giving this wine great cellaring potential.
A very nice Pinot Noir, complex with good fruit, earthy notes, nice soft tannins, good acidity; took some time to open up, decanted the wine gave it an hour to breathe. Approaching a Burgundian style, a good wine to open the door to Burgundy for CA wine drinkers.
