Merry Edwards Pinot Noir Russian River Valley Coopersmith 2015

Member Review by EMark:

Good wine. Light, but bright red fruit--thankfully not syrupy. Medium-bodied. Good tartness.

at or close to full maturity-clove and spice along with sour milk and barnyard funk. Pleasant, rich, intense PN fruit with a softening structure

One of California’s first woman winemakers, Merry Edwards career has been nothing short of astounding. Starting at the venerable Mount Eden Vineyards in the Santa Cruz Mountains in 1974, she went on to become the founding winemaker at Matanzas Creek in 1977. Merry has consulted for countless wineries, large and small, throughout California and Oregon. In 1997 she founded Merry Edwards Winery, with a focus on producing Pinot Noirs with a sense of place from Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast. This 2010 is beautiful example. 92 points from Wine Enthusiast Magazine and 92 from Antonio Galloni who said "Bright saline notes frame expressive fruit in the 2010 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast. A beautifully layered wine, the 2010 impresses for its length, finesse and balance. I very much like the sense of precision and cut here. Sweet floral notes meld into red berries and spices in this striking, delineated wine." Extremely Limited!

On first impression, the aroma is pure fruit -- fresh blackberry, dark plum, black raspberry and huckleberry. Add to this currants, strawberry jam, cassis and cherry pie. Sarsaparilla, Lapsang Souchong tea, cocoa, roasted-toasty oak and a bit of vanilla bean round out this Pinot's complex persona.
