Merriam Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Dry Creek Valley 2008

Member Review by carey1:

Stainless Steel Fermentation, Sur-lie. Tropical seaside fruit fill the nose with ripe banana, pineapple and guava nectar. Crisp acidity and clean minerality make this a perfect pairing for oysters on the half shell. Yes please!

The theme carried through first with their love of entertaining family and friends with the perfect food and wine pairings, and, in 2000, with the production of small lot, handcrafted wines from their own estate vineyard, and from grapes grown in the Dry Creek and Alexander Valleys by some of the most highly esteemed growers in Sonoma County. This Cabernet is sold out! It has a fantastic earthy, bell pepper nose, deep black cherry on the tounge and a long lingering finish of chocolate and tobacco.

Rating: 89/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the August 2010 issue. Solidly focused on proper varietal currants and filled out with a nice complement of rich oak, this nicely stuffed wine sports a good sense of fruity depth and shows the muscle and spine that young Cabernet should. It is presently limited by ample tannins and somewhat pushy acidity, but its flavors persist at the finish, and it has the pieces in place to grow into comfortable maturity some five or six years hence.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Cellar for future drinking. Wine will improve with bottle aging.
