Color Deep ruby red with violet undertones Bouquet Expressive aromas of plums and cherries, vanilla, cedar and a touch of mint. Taste Ripe plum flavors mingle with deep, dark fruit flavors. A touch of mint and toasty oak give this wine an elegant and charming finish. Alcohol 14% Serving Suggestions Best when served with steak, lamb, tomato-based pasta dishes, and soft cheeses.
Merlot Reserva 2007 - 88 Points, International Wine Cellar/ Deep ruby. Dark berries, cherry and cured meat on the nose. Fleshy and gently sweet, with surprisingly deep dark berry and candied cherry flavors and a late note of licorice. Finishes with persistent sweetness and an echo of dried flowers. For merlot, this is an absolute steal.
/ Well proportioned and solid, with pure cherry and berry characteristics alongside notes of tobacco and sugar beet. A bit tannic and firm, but not overly so; the finish offers mocha and plenty of berry extract.
Today's Picks - 2/18/05/ Good, straightforward red and dark berry fruit here, though a slightly raisined edge comes in on the finish. Notes of chocolate and toast as well.
Smart Buys; Six Merlots for $23 or Less/ Amped-up with quite a bit of toast; there's also plenty of red and black currant and boysenberry fruit and an interesting Cabernet-like graphite edge. Nice focus and solid grip on the finish. From Chile. Drink now through 2005. 15,500 cases made.
