Meritage 2014

Winemaker's Notes:

The grapes for Meritage are hand-harvested and sorted then gravity fed to tank where it undergoes a cold maceration for 4-5 days. The grapes are then fermented entirely in stainless tanks at no more than 81° F. After alcoholic fermentation, an extended post maceration allows for additional body and structure. Afterwards, malolactic fermentation in barrel softens the wine by removing malic acid. The resulting wines are aged in French oak barrels for 9 months before blending and bottling.

Planted on southern facing slopes in high density to achieve grapes with maximum maturity, our Bordeaux style blends are marked by complexity and depth.   Our sparkling vineyards, planted in Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, were chosen because of their unique microclimates. Since our vineyards have the coolest terroirs, they delay the maturity of the grapes and help preserve the natural acidity and minerality needed to make them into truly great sparkling wine. Tasting Notes:

This medium bodied Bordeaux style red composed of 40% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Franc, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Malbec, 2% Petit Verdot is soft and approachable with a complex and round body. It is fruit forward with flavors of black cherry, currant, cocoa and spice.
