Meridian Vineyards Chardonnay Santa Barbara County 2016

Member Review by Zuiko:

A simple wine with citrus/lemon notes. Nothing profound and priced to reflect that. My rating-- 85

Clear bright straw, aromas of pineapples and tropical fruits, flavors of yellow apple and lime with good acidity. Clean and not over textured.

    Oak-ey. Buttery. Boring.

Nice warmth, medium-bodied. Vanilla notes on nose. There's also a fresh fruitiness that opens up throughout the glass. Overall, it wouldn't be my first choice for a white wine, but it's simple, easy drinking.

Here's a smartly styled coastal chardonnay with the briskness of a cool Pacific breeze on a sand dune and lasting green pear flavor. Clean and ready to chill.

Taking a sip of Meridian Chardonnay is like stepping inside on a hot summer day and feeling the refreshing cool of the air conditioning. The tangy crispness of the tropical and grapefruit notes drive the zing in this Chardonnay, making it the perfect complement to a seaside picnic lunch of turkey burgers, a Sunday brunch omelet, or a lazy afternoon sitting on the patio with friends.

Notes of apple blossom and vanilla mingle pleasingly on the nose along with red apple, fresh pear and vanilla. Pineapple and cantaloupe are evident on the palate with a subtle hint of shortbread.

Lots to admire in this ripe, elegant pear, apple and honeyed wine. Picks up light toasty oak on the finish. An excellent value. Drink now through 2004.

Following in a long line of well-balanced, affordable Chardonnays, the 2007 is assertive, with bold pineapple, citrus and melon flavors and just a touch of almond. Minimum oak aging allows the wine to showcase the bright tropical fruit, with just a touch of toast at the finish.

Bright and lively, with citrus and lemon-lime flavors that pick up ripe apple and pear shadings on the finish. A great Chardonnay for the thrifty. Drink now through 2006.

One of the best values in Chardonnay - from anywhere. This wine follows up on previous meridian successes. With lots of citrus and tropical fruit in both the nose and mouth, it maintains its balance and ends on a warm and toasty note. If you can find a better Chardonnay for the price, buy it; but you probably won't.
