Meridian Vineyards Chardonnay Santa Barbara County 2016

Member Review by Zuiko:

A simple wine with citrus/lemon notes. Nothing profound and priced to reflect that. My rating-- 85

Clear bright straw, aromas of pineapples and tropical fruits, flavors of yellow apple and lime with good acidity. Clean and not over textured.

    Oak-ey. Buttery. Boring.

Nice warmth, medium-bodied. Vanilla notes on nose. There's also a fresh fruitiness that opens up throughout the glass. Overall, it wouldn't be my first choice for a white wine, but it's simple, easy drinking.

Taking a sip of Meridian Chardonnay is like stepping inside on a hot summer day and feeling the refreshing cool of the air conditioning. The tangy crispness of the tropical and grapefruit notes drive the zing in this Chardonnay, making it the perfect complement to a seaside picnic lunch of turkey burgers, a Sunday brunch omelet, or a lazy afternoon sitting on the patio with friends.

Here's a smartly styled coastal chardonnay with the briskness of a cool Pacific breeze on a sand dune and lasting green pear flavor. Clean and ready to chill.

Exotic aromas mingle pleasingly in this wine and include notes of fresh cut flowers, lychee, vanilla and nutmeg. A dash of toasted almond brings about an intriguing mid-note. This is not a shy Chardonnay. On the palate expect flavors of pineapple, lime and grapefruit essence with a touch of oak, followed by a lengthy finish. Appellation Santa Barbara County

If this were France, this white would seem more Rhonish than Burgundian, with its cider and apple butter scent, followed by flavors of beeswax and citrus honey. Yet it stays crisp and clean, a palate cleanser for roast monkfish or a crab stew.

Notes of apple blossom and vanilla mingle pleasingly on the nose along with red apple, fresh pear and vanilla. Pineapple and cantaloupe are evident on the palate with a subtle hint of shortbread.

Always a dependable producer, Meridian has crafted another fine and affordable Chardonnay. Lovely tropical-fruit aromas, a medium to full mouthfeel, a palate of ripe Santa Barbara fruit, and the judicious use of oak make this a fine value.

Smooth, silky and distinctive, with nectarine, grapefruit and mineral flavors, plus a touch of earthiness on the finish. Ready now.
