Oak-ey. Buttery. Boring.
Nice warmth, medium-bodied. Vanilla notes on nose. There's also a fresh fruitiness that opens up throughout the glass. Overall, it wouldn't be my first choice for a white wine, but it's simple, easy drinking.
Cheap and delicious.
External Reviews for Meridian Vineyards Chardonnay California
Always a dependable producer, Meridian has crafted another fine and affordable Chardonnay. Lovely tropical-fruit aromas, a medium to full mouthfeel, a palate of ripe Santa Barbara fruit, and the judicious use of oak make this a fine value.
One of the best values in Chardonnay - from anywhere. This wine follows up on previous meridian successes. With lots of citrus and tropical fruit in both the nose and mouth, it maintains its balance and ends on a warm and toasty note. If you can find a better Chardonnay for the price, buy it; but you probably won't.
A nice all-around Chardonnay at an attractive price, this is medium in weight, with a core of earthy pear, fig and apple, finishing with tasteful light oak and a creamy note. Drink now.
The 1998 Chardonnay Santa Barbara is tropical fruit-dominated, tart, perfumed, uncomplicated but savory. It should be consumed over the next 12-24 months. Meridian has consistently maintained a fair pricing policy, so while this effort may not be a super-star, it represents well-made wines selling at reasonable prices. Readers take note.
The delightfully lush aromas and flavors of nectarines and fresh green apples, accented with the right touch of oak and followed by a rich, smooth finish, make this a wine to enjoy often. It is delicious!
Following in a long line of well-balanced, affordable Chardonnays, the 2007 is assertive, with bold pineapple, citrus and melon flavors and just a touch of almond. Minimum oak aging allows the wine to showcase the bright tropical fruit, with just a touch of toast at the finish.
Started in the early 1980s by veteran winemaker Chuck Ortman, Meridian hit the big time after it was bought by Beringer, when it became a dependably value-oriented winery. This Chard benefits from Beringer's extensive vineyard acreage in the county. Winemaker Signe Zoeller chose lots that combine balance and complexity with lush pineapple, peach, tangerine and honeysuckle flavors, set in a creamy texture.
Exotic aromas mingle pleasingly in this wine and include notes of fresh cut flowers, lychee, vanilla and nutmeg. A dash of toasted almond brings about an intriguing mid-note. This is not a shy Chardonnay. On the palate expect flavors of pineapple, lime and grapefruit essence with a touch of oak, followed by a lengthy finish.
