Mercer Estates Ode To Brothers 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

About the Ode To Brothers Blend Vineyard Sourcing: The wine is made from grapes grown in the Horse Heaven Hills. Grenache and Mourvedre came from Mercer Estates Spice Cabinet Vineyard, which sits in a small southeast-facing bowl, capturing the early morning sun, yet escaping the hot, late afternoon rays. This site benefits from the tempering effect of the river which allows grapes to ripen slowly-- fully developing flavors, colors and tannins. The Syrah comes from Champoux Vineyard, which is north of the Spice Cabinet Vineyard. The Ode to Brothers Rhone Blend pays homage to the three brothers who, in the 1960’s, risked everything to farm the rugged soils of Eastern Washington. In 1972, Don Mercer planted the Horse Heaven Hills’ first wine grapes on what is know today as one of the state’s premier AVAs. Cheers to the brothers! Winery Tasting Notes A beautifully balanced blend of three classic Rhone varietals– Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre – allows the character of each to shine through. The Grenache brings nice ripe currants and raspberries and keeps the mouth feel bright and lithe. The Syrah lends volume and complex aromas of smoke and cured meat. Mourvedre supplies white pepper and minerality. The contribution of each of these varieties has created a balanced, elegant Rhone Blend that can be enjoyed for many years to come.
