Mer Soleil Chardonnay Silver Unoaked 2010

Winemaker's Notes:

Light gold color with a pale green tint. Clean, lively aromas of honeydew melon and green apple carry over to delicate tropical fruit flavors of pineapple and papaya, balanced with crisp mineral notes. The full texture lasts through a luxuriously long finish. The ceramic bottles are meant to reflect the cement vessels the winery uses when fermenting and aging Silver Chardonnay.

Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.

This smells very ripe and tropical with pineapple and mango aromas. This delivers a mouthful of relatively soft if intensely pineapple and mango flavored wine. It's round and easy going with a short finish. 82pts

Somewhat on the citrus fruit side of chardonnay but not the crisp, minerally style, kind of in between with some oak but not buttery, fruit but more citrus than apple.

according to Elin McCoy article http://www.zesterdaily.com/drinking/1317-2010-mer-soleil-silver-chardonnay-wine-review "This lemony 2010 Mer Soleil Silver Chardonnay from California's Santa Lucia Highlands is pure and crisp, with weight and richness but without the telltale vanilla notes of new oak aging."

The wine is fermented and aged in natural cement tanks imported from France, allowing for this varietals clean aromas to shine bright. This wine sees no wood, helping to maintain the bright fruit characters and minerality produced from the Chardonnay grapes.Mineral driven nose with citrus shining through. Cement tank fermentation and aging bring out aromas remindful of the first rain of the season or a wet rock. Soft and round entry with an acid backbone informs you these grapes are grown in a cooler climate. Mid palate reveals ripe fruit such as lemons, gooseberry and grapefruit. Finishes dry while the acid comes and goes in a balanced fashion. Laser sharp minerality carries through from start to finish on both palate and aroma. - Winery ** SOLD OUT **

Color of light straw. Vivid aromas display baking spice butterscotch and and freshly-cut hay. Light viscosity and mild acidity wrap around a palate accented by Chablis-like texture with a hint of stone and mineral while the back palate is elegant highlighted by a burst of apple-laced fruit. This is a stylish yet focused chardonnay that will appeal to both Eurocentric and New World tastes-a nice package of nuance and flair. Jim Collins.

Zesty, with racy, mouthwatering citrus, pineapple and green apple fruit thatandrsquo;s pure and focused. Ends with lively acidity. Drink now through 2016.

This elegant Chardonnay sees no oak contact whatsoever. None. Zippo. Nada. Instead, it displays a Chablis-like minerality driven by green apple and citrus notes and a powerful mouthfeel. Sleek and refined, the body is crisp and the finish provides a jolt of acidity. If youandrsquo;re wondering about the ceramic bottle, it is meant to evoke the cement tanks used during fermentation, but weandrsquo;ve heard it also doubles as a nice vase for flowers. Once the wine is gone, of course.
