A syrah turned up high in terms of concentration, expression, and varietal honesty. Meat, smoked ham, violets on the nose. Plenty of fruits to chew on this wine all the way to the back end with tannins and subtle oak. Tons of layers and is holding very well. Super stuff.
This impressive wine produced from the award winning Faribairn Ranch shows incredible layering with classic flavors of smoky bacon, black cherry, and deep rich earth. It is a wine that presents a compelling aromatic profile and continues to evolve in the glass. A fantastic start for the young winery Mendocino Farms.

Our 2005 Syrah is produced from 100% Syrah grapes on the fabled Fairbairn Ranch, located on the southeastern bench lands of the Ukiah Valley in the upper Russian River watershed. Fairbairn Ranch is certified Biodynamic® by Demeter indicating the grapes are produced to the highest levels of organic quality. We selectively harvested the crop in two lots to optimize quality and retain the unique flavor profiles of the different parts of the vineyard. The two lots were fermented separately and only the finest French oak barrels were used for aging. The separate lots were blended prior to bottling according to our tastes. The Redvine soils of the Fairbairn Ranch are consistent with our other high elevation vineyard sites in the Ukiah Valley and provide a unique terroir that is increasingly recognized for producing wines of distinction. Redvine soils are high in iron, reddish in color, gravely and well-drained. Our 2005 Syrah shows uncommon depth and color, and exhibits aromatic and flavor profiles of smoked game, blueberries and ripe black cherry. This wine is produced in a style that will allow for continued development over time or with decanting. 100% Syrah Alcohol 14.8% pH 3.86 T.A. 4.8 grams/liter
