Winemaker's Notes:

production From our Small Lot Collection, the fruit from this bottling endured naturally-stressed conditions, bearing roughly 2.75 lbs/vine. This .25 acre is tightly spaced at 4'x3' and planted to four clones of syrah (directly across from our High Density pinot noir.) 100% of the grapes were gently de-stemmed and were fermented in small 1.5 ton open-top fermenters. Total skin and stem contact averaged 30 days (a 6-7 day cold soak, 2+ weeks fermentation and 1+ week extended maceration). From the press, the wine was handbucketed directly to neutral barrels, where it remained sur lie with no SO2 until the waning moon cycle of July, and bottled in December 2002. 14.6% alcohol. tasting notes Intriguingly high-toned aromatics of lavender and white pepper emerge from the glass. In the mouth, there are intense, fruit driven elements of raspberry and blackberry followed by lychee fruit components in the finish. Texturally, the wine is gracious and rich, buttressed by relatively firm tannins in the mouth.
