Editorial Reviews for Melville Pinot Noir Santa Maria Valley
Fantastic on the nose with animal fur, spicy, green herbs and stems, and incredible lift and height. This is a particular expression of Pinot that certain has its followers and dramatic appeal. There’s plenty of fruit lurking under the engagingly high-toned aromatics in the black raspberry and slightly boysenberry toned register. This is smooth and rich with rich strawberry and raspberry toned fruit that has a dusting of cocoa with a real deep core of wonderfully ripe fruit that has a lively, vegetal, rhubarb edge to it. . The finish is still a bit rough with tannin and acid poking out but the fruit is pure, fresh and nicely complex. 93pts

A Pinot Noir wine from California in USA. 2008 Melville Pinot Noir Estate 750ml
This estate, located in the Santa Rita Hills area of California, has a cool maritime climate that is perfect for growing pinot noir. Black cherry and dark plum flavors surround notes of earth and spice, while the luscious and velvety texture fills your mouth.
Bright ruby. Sexy, smoky aromas of red fruits, baking spices and musky herbs. Spicy and concentrated, with an enticing sweetness and good stuffing to its red and dark berry flavors. This is 100% Melville fruit from our Santa Rita Hills estate, and is a collection of 14 pinot noir clones. Yields were 2.7 lbs. / plant, and was hand-harvested over a five week period. 55% of the fruit was gently de-stemmed with 45% fermented as whole-clusters in small (1.5 ton) open-top fermenters. Total skin and stalk contact averaged 30 days (7 day cold soak, 2 + weeks of fermentation and 1 + week extended maceration.) From the press, the wine was transferred directly into barrel (20% new Sirugue French oak), where it remained sur lie with no sulfur until April, when it was gently pressure-racked for the first time and prepared for bottling in July. 15.1% alcohol. Tasting Notes: A beautiful red and black color shines from the glass with fresh fruit aromatics of red currants, black raspberry, black cherry and umbeoshi. Spicy and herbal components of mocha, maple, thyme, clove and orange -black tea also emanate while nuances of ocean spray, white-oil flowers and crushed minerals thread through the background. On the palate, the wine blankets your mouth with a sensation that is plush, velvety and weighty yet remains driven and defined.
The color is a dark ruby/mahogany with full intensity. The nose explodes with a gorgeous perfume of black fruits and crushed flower blossoms with an underlying spice from the addition of whole clusters. The palate seals the deal with concentration o...
