From the west side of our estate, Terraces lies completely exposed to the elements facing severe wind pressure with exposures of south-west, west and north. This 2.8 acre block is planted on clay loam and limestone soils, where three sections rise up wrapping 120° around the Carrie’s block. Five clones: Swan, Mount Eden, 115, 667 and 777 form a unique combination of old and new clones. The site’s soils, elevations, expositions and
clonal diversity and clonal diversity run thematically through this wine providing a multitude of expressions. Yields were slight at 1.3 lbs / vine (1.18 read more...tons / acre). 20% stem inclusion.
It is a robust and complex wine on the nose, with aromas ranging from red and blue fruits to
bacon fat, sweet cinnamon spice and anise. A similar harmony is maintained on the palate
where the firm texture is corralled by the rich, velour-like sweet fruit characteristics finishing long and deep. (hide)
