Melis Grenache Blend Priorat 2006

External Review:

Wine Spectator ReviewCoffee, cola and earth flavors run though this burly red. There's a core of plum fruit, and enough acidity to keep it lively. Muscular but well-integrated, with lots of oak. Grenache, Carignane, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best after 2008.Wine Tasting NotesThe Melis shows a deep purple black color, with beautiful aromas of black cherry, tobacco and violets, as well as unique mineral notes derived from the licorella slate of our vineyards. The palate is full and rich, with a silky texture balanced by fine tannins and a long finish. We recommend decanting this wine 30 to 60 minutes prior to drinking.

Ruby purple at the core with slight garnet hues to the rim. With excellent freshness, the nose exhibits aromas of sage brush, violets, and acacia flowers, which are complemented by strawberries, dried cranberries, mocha and freshly ground black pepp... From the same team that brings you the Central Coastandrsquo;s superb Sea Smoke Pinot Noirs comes Melis, a splendid example of what can be achieved in Priorat. The 2004 Melis, from an outstanding vintage, is a blend of 63% Grenache, 16% Carignan, 14% Syrah, and 7% Cabernet Sauvignon. It was aged for 15 months in several sizes of 100% new Burgundian oak before being bottled without fining or filtration. Purple-colored, it exhibits sweet aromas of vanilla spice, toast, mineral, wild blueberry and blackberry. Full-bodied (a nicely concealed 15.5% alcohol) with a velvety palate-feel, layers of opulent black fruit flavors, ripe tannins, and a long, pure finish, this large-scaled wine can be enjoyed now and over the next 15andndash;20 years. Bravo!

This red shows impressive concentration. It’s full-bodied, with ripe, dark flavors of boysenberry and blackberry, anise and coffee. Mouthfilling tannins need time to soften. Best from 2008 through 2018.
