Mcwilliam's Hanwood Estate Shiraz 2017
Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:
Lightly perfumed on the nose with aromas of candied red cherries and a touch of woodsy spice and a camphor base note. Round and juicy on entry, this is more savory than the nose suggests with attractive meaty, woodsy, and slightly leather flavors. That camphor/mint accent shows up on the palate as well. The tannins are fairly soft here, if supportive lending a dusty cast to the moderately long, slightly raw plum and oak finish. A bit raw and rustic but not unattractive. 84pts

This has a slightly exotic nose, more wild red berry fruited than most Shiraz, with a gamy edge and fresh herbal spice notes adding detail. This is really lovely to smell, showing flashes of olive and meat along with the fruit, which gains a darker profile with air. This is rather lighter bodied on the palate than many Shiraz with a feel and balance that’s more akin to a Bordeaux blend. It is tight and structured, if not overly tannic. Fresh red berries and a touch of blue fruit are wrapped in soft wood spice with flourishes of herbs, adding zip. The oak becomes apparent on the finish, with some sweet cocoa and cedar notes adding detail to a moderately long raspberry finale. This won’t knock you out with power, but it may very well seduce you. 89 pts

Add your reviewVery ordinary wine may have to blend the remaining 6 bottles or use in the cooking. How did it win gold and a trophy? The only plus is the price but still not a good buy.
Plum and raspberry with a hint of mint. I enjoyed the complexity of this wine. Very refreshing.

Crimson red with purple hues. Aromas: Dark black fruit aromas of plum combine with spice and vanillin oak. Flavors: The supple yet generous palate is dominated by rich, plum and raspberry fruit flavors with hints of spice and vanilla.

A young, aggressively jammy wine with biting acidity that brings Beaujolais to mind. It's simple, with berry and fruit flavors, and very dry.

Vibrant crimson color. Classic plum and raspberry notes with a subtle hint of vanilla. Oak maturation has enhanced the natural plum and raspberry flavors of the Shiraz grape, added subtle vanilla overtones and a slight ripeness to the finish.
