Editorial Reviews for Mcmanis Syrah California
Low on the nose with slightly sour smelling, cooked black fruit notes. A bit leathery and a sort of weird combo with licorice and vanilla accent notes. Bright on the mouth with plenty of acid, but a bit out of balance. There’s some sweetness here that helps to balance things out and enough dark fruit that’s a bit matte and slightly pruny to satisfy many people. There’s even a touch of roast meat and pepper on the moderate finish, though the unnatural acid does cut through. 84pts
Light aromas of blackberry and cassis, with a floral hint and a bit of cream. A medium bodied and flavorful wine, full of cherry and candied plum. Simple but well made and pleasant, full of California sun, bright fruit and soft tannins.
Acidic ripe red fruit on the nose with a gorgeous ruby-violet color. A bit tannic on the palette with a bit of grapiness and dried plums.
I've had nothing but bad experiences with McManis wines. Two bottles I opened recently (08 Syrah and 09 Merlot) were completely unpalatable. When the winemakers were notified, they responded "Our wines are not made for aging". Save your money, you'll be happier with a two-buck-chuck instead.
Quite spicy, has a deal of acidity to it. Definite pepper taste. When swiriling in the glass, this wine exhibits legs and has pronounced tannin. Overall I really enjoyed this wine.

The 2010 McManis Family Vineyards Syrah is medium purple in color, with a luminous youthful hue. Bright ripe blackberry plays the lead role in the nose, while subtle vanilla and caramel make up the supporting cast. Brimming with dark berry fruit flavors, the lively wine finishes soft and smooth. Sublime notes of toasty oak linger in the finish.
Rich, luscious, deep concentrated flavors, smooth lingering finish. Outstanding, don't miss this!
Soft and fleshy, with ripe tannins, complex flavors of blackberry and cherry, and just a touch of cedar and smoke. This red screams for black pepper-crusted pork loin.
The 2003 Syrah reveals notions of smoke, bacon fat, and cassis, along with medium body, soft tannin, and a compact, but pleasant finish. It is best consumed over the next 1-2 years.
The black cherry and black raspberry flavors are fruity and ripe, and have an edge of smoky tobacco and white pepper. Although it's easy to drink now, the tannins are finely etched. Delicious with duck with a dark fruit sauce.
A simple, rugged wine with flavors of berries, chocolate, herbs and something vaguely oak-like. It's dry and full-bodied.
Plum, black cherry and hints of dark chocolate in a plush Syrah that would pair nicely with lamb shanks.
