Mcmanis Family Vineyards Viognier California 2008
2008 Viognier Winemaking Notes The fruit for our 2008 Viognier was harvested between September 3rd and 7th. The majority of fruit came from our own Estate Vineyards and averaged 27.5 Brix at harvest. The juice was cold fermented in Stainless Steel to retain the unique fruit characteristics of Viognier. Tasting Notes Pears Apples and Melon flavors are accompanied by a rich mouth feel nice acid balance and a clean finish. The 2008 Viognier is medium straw in color with aromas of Peach Apricot and hints of flinty citrus. We are happy to announce that the 2008 Viognier is sealed with a Stelvin Lux Screw Cap. The Stelvin Lux is a top of the line enclosure that gives the appearance of a bottle with a cork finish but with screw cap ease. Just twist it off. Rich floral peach & apricot aromas & flavors; great balance & depth with hints of citrus. 91 points.
I'm generally not that big on Viognier, but I really like this one. A good value as well.
To my uncultivated nose, this Viognier had an aroma of pome fruit and...cheese? There was a savory note mixed in with the apple and pear on tasting that gave the sweetness depth. VERY smooth and drinkable - alone or with, perhaps, a dessert course of fruit, nuts and cheese.
