I've had nothing but bad experiences with McManis wines. Two bottles I opened recently (08 Syrah and 09 Merlot) were completely unpalatable. When the winemakers were notified, they responded "Our wines are not made for aging". Save your money, you'll be happier with a two-buck-chuck instead.

A dark, fruity wine, very ripe, packed with blackberry, plum, pepper and tobacco flavors. Dry, and a little soft, but with adequate acids. Would get a higher score but for its immature, rustic tannins.

The 2003 Syrah reveals notions of smoke, bacon fat, and cassis, along with medium body, soft tannin, and a compact, but pleasant finish. It is best consumed over the next 1-2 years.

A simple, rugged wine with flavors of berries, chocolate, herbs and something vaguely oak-like. It's dry and full-bodied.

Soft and fleshy, with ripe tannins, complex flavors of blackberry and cherry, and just a touch of cedar and smoke. This red screams for black pepper-crusted pork loin.

Rich, luscious, deep concentrated flavors, smooth lingering finish. Outstanding, don't miss this!

Rather soft and thick in texture, a low-tannin, low-acid wine with flavors of sweetened coffee, cherry compote and rhubarb pie. Easy and gentle.

Winemaker's Notes:

The medium dark purple color of the 2009 Syrah is a foreshadowing of the abundant dark berry fruit, which is reminiscent of mixed berry pie filling present in the nose. The berry fruit is interlaced with milk chocolate. The wine is big, rich and creamy in the mouth and full of flavors that you would expect given the nose. The finish is long and juicy.
