Mcmanis Family Vineyards Syrah California 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

The medium dark purple color of the 2009 Syrah is a foreshadowing of the abundant dark berry fruit, which is reminiscent of mixed berry pie filling present in the nose. The berry fruit is interlaced with milk chocolate. The wine is big, rich and creamy in the mouth and full of flavors that you would expect given the nose. The finish is long and juicy.

I've had nothing but bad experiences with McManis wines. Two bottles I opened recently (08 Syrah and 09 Merlot) were completely unpalatable. When the winemakers were notified, they responded "Our wines are not made for aging". Save your money, you'll be happier with a two-buck-chuck instead.

Plum, black cherry and hints of dark chocolate in a plush Syrah that would pair nicely with lamb shanks.

Ripe and oaky, with blueberry and cola flavors wrapped in a wash of coconut and vanilla that finishes with tangy structure. Drink now through 2005.

Well-integrated coconut and cedar flavors pick up a hint of ripe wild berry and black cherry. Fruit intensity lingers, along with soft tannin and coconut on the finish. An inexpensive bottle of California's up-and-coming varietal. Drink now through 2005.

Here's a fresh, delicious Syrah for drinking now. It's lush and smooth in black raspberry and cherry purée, fennel, beef jerky and black pepper flavors, backed up with a juicy hit of acidity.

Once you have experienced this wine your mouth will water every time you ponder the memory of it. Huge black and red fruits burst through a palate laced with white pepper spice. Black cherry, raspberry and blackberry surge around the palate while the elegant spice ensures that this wine can satisfy the most finicky connoisseur at a very affordable price. Try this red with peppered steak or Black Angus burgers, or drink it like a meal itself.
