Bob McLean, who was the winemaker at St. Hallett for many years, has produced a stunning value, the 2003 Shiraz/Cabernet (equal parts each). There are 3,000 cases of this beautiful South Australian fruit bomb. A deep ruby/purple color is followed by scents of blackberries, currants, licorice, and smoke. Medium to full-bodied, with supple tannin, it is a tasty, hedonistic red that should agitate those insufferable elitists who believe it is a sin to produce wines that taste so good young. Enjoy this pleasure-filled 2003 over the next 2-3 years. -Wine Advocate
