Spicy nose, with lots of pine. On the palate, viscous, very grapey, spicy. Really interesting! Big body, medium acidity. Balanced oak. Light round sweetness. Earthy funk that might get old after a bottle? I'll have to let you know, because it intrigued me enough to buy one. :) $30

Winemaker's Notes:

Roussanne, one of the six white Rhône grapes of Châteauneuf du Pape, is a relative newcomer to Washington State. Orange and peach blossom aromas and flavors are characteristic of the variety. After gentle whole-cluster press, the juice was fermented in stainless tank. A portion of Viognier was added to lift and brighten the blend. The 2005 vintage was a perfect combination of a frost-free spring, an even, warm summer, and a protracted 'Indian summer' -- virtually ideal conditions for excellent wine grapes. The extra hang time produced mature, concentrated flavors and the season’s ideal weather resulted in small berry size. 2005 will stand as one of the most outstanding vintages in the industry's history. Washington’s Rhône varietal pioneer, Doug McCrea transforms grapes from the finest Columbia Valley vineyards into wines of extraordinary depth, balance, complexity and finesse. Annual Production: 4000 cases of Syrah, Viognier, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Roussanne and Counoise. Composition: 86% Roussanne, 14% Viognier Vineyard: Ciel du Cheval, Red Mountain Harvest date: September 12, 2005 Alcohol: 14.1% pH: 3.6 Titratable Acid: 4.3 gm/litre
