Mcclean Vineyards Syrah Paso Robles Estate Private Reserve 2004
An unforgettable choice, our Estate Syrah originates in a magical place outside of Templeton, along the South El Pomar corridor. Years of living in the middle of this vineyard allowed us to personally tend to every aspect of its care. We have come to appreciate the perfect combination of winter frost, summer heat, cool nightly ocean breezes, pure water and unique blend of clay and limestone soils which define the fruit. This contributed to the 14.5% alcohol content that puts this wine in a unique class of its own. IIn November 2006 we will be releasing our 2004 Estate Private Reserve Syrah which will certainly have the wine community reeling. This time we aged our Syrah for 20 months in 100% French oak. You may place your order in advance to guarantee your delivery.
This has a big aroma with a core of blackberry cobbler and hints of wet leaves/forest floor. On the tongue, solid core of blackberry, red current, black cherry with hints of mint, aniseed, tobacco, and spices. Medium to full bodied with fairly long aromatic finish.

Another great value from McClean Vineyards! The nose on this syrah is fascinating, a complex melange of petrol, blackberries and toffee. There are toffee flavors that carry to the flavor profile and highlight notes of ripe dark fruits and cassis. The finish is almost sticky, black currant and ripe fruit dominating. A richly complex wine at a nice price-point... can't go wrong!
With a nose of sweet prunes, this wine is not surprising...after all its a Syrah. The mouthfeel is filled with dark-berry jammy flavors, prunes, and a very, very slight hint of vanilla....nothing over the top (if you are used to wines jam-packed with jammyness, that is)...so what else can I say, if this sounds like your kind of syrah, this is great value!
McClean Vineyards has done the right thing by specializing in Syrah. The nose is full of blackberries and though it probably smells more like a cafflouti it reminds me of really good smelling shampoo! There is also a hint of dried plums that comes through beautifully. On the palate I would consider it to be nice and jammy. It's lush and well rounded with incredibly juicy prune and blackberry flavors exploding in your mouth, and a creamy finish that lingers nicely.
